the ageless generation no.1
how to rediscover your pzazz in mid-life
Times, they have changed. Being mid-life means very different things now than it ever has done in the past. It begs the question; is how you feel about your age a state of mind or just a number? Is your ‘age’ the result of some deep belief about how things ‘should’ be, or do you feel that it is a label that is put on people (mainly women) in a completely arbitrary way?
Our parents and grandparents probably had very different expectations, and many might have considered themselves old by their 50’s. Today we have the luxury of a very different society, and much more open thinking around age and individual identity.
Feeling good about yourself, and looking great need not be experiences that are governed by a number. However, self-esteem and self-confidence can often start to fade as time goes by. Sometimes your sense of self can be tied to your interactions with family, friends and colleagues, as well as your surroundings. When these relationships change, as they surely do, how you adapt to your current situation can have a profound effect on your wellbeing.
Knowing that you still have so many choices in your life going forward can be as exciting as it is daunting. Updating your image is a great way to enhance, or rediscover, your mojo when you might be feeling a bit stuck. The ‘uniform’ for people over 40, 50, or 60 has been completely transformed. If you feel comfortable and look good, then most ‘fashions’ can be worn by most age groups…obviously with a few tweaks!
What you consider as middle aged is I suspect largely dependent on your current age. If you are 20 and reading this, then surely 40 seems sooooo old as to not be worth even contemplating. If you are 40 then you probably think you’re not there yet, but perhaps you will be when you are 60? At 70 how do you feel? Do you feel ‘old’ or in your prime? Do you want to go out, wear great clothes, and have fun, or are you happy with a life full of love and family, or are you just thankful that you have lived 20 years longer than your great, great, great grandmother?
As a woman, in stark contrast to your ancestors you are often going to be healthy, loving, working, learning, or doing something interesting well into your 7th or 8th decade. Where ‘retirement’ had been something that marked an end of your ‘useful’ working life, (and for many the beginning of the end of their life), in the 21st century this is no longer a given.
If you’re not sure that you believe that 60 is the new 40 or not, just look around you if you needed any proof. Age is no longer an automatic barrier for women when it comes to style. The main obstacle to embracing the image you might like is where to find inspiration. With very little effort and a smattering of creativity, you can create a wardrobe and and an image that works for you as an inspirational ageless woman.
